Much like bad weather swept through the north-west the night before, City blew the visitors away at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil victory for their manager's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a result that firmly established their championship potential as they consolidated their place at the league summit.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This result signalled consecutive Women's Super League defeats for the United manager's side for the first time since May 2024, leaving them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's capacity to juggle domestic and continental soccer with a limited roster has been a widely debated subject since they earned a place in the European competition. Considering the schedule, it always seemed this was the period that would truly test this ability. Sadly for the visitors, they looked tired all game, the memorable win against PSG clearly having taken a toll.

Lineup Adjustments

Marc Skinner had sought to rotate the squad with a several alterations. Ella Toone, Terland, Janssen and Galton all brought vigor, although the omission of the in-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.

Ex- City player Jess Park came closest, striking the upright, but the visitors were creatively abject and did not manage to record a one shot on goal.

The hosts, meanwhile, could have added to their cushion when a superb Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it was insignificant to the hosts. Previously unable to beat any side who finished above them the previous campaign, Jeglertz’s side now have victories against Arsenal and Manchester United to position them in a strong standing after nine matches.
