Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Spurs box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to Sunderland in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club go to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
